This past week saw plenty of keeper fluke come to the fry pans both out of the bay and on the jetty. The guys over at the condo docks on sixth st. are still lighting it up and catching keeper fish everyday. (Three of those old dudes are a combined 245 yrs. of age) I fished with those guys on Tuesday and impressed even myself with two fish at 20 inches and a 19 to go. I also took some pics of some really nice fish to come off the docks this past two weeks and I saw my first triggerfish come to the surface right in front of me. You'll need some of Basil's fresh ground chum to get them to you, and I know Basil's chum is fresh because I went into the shop the other day and caught him eating some of it. Sometimes I worry about that dude. And with that we venture out to the end of the rock pile where the togs are thick and mean! I went out there twice since the season opened and caught nice fish within minutes, 17 inches and up. Most guys are passing on that because of the long haul out there, but you have to remember that the jetty is a crazy place with triggers, togs, sheepshead and plenty of fluke, as well as an occasional giant drum. And that's if you can get past the bluefish. Outside the inlet the fluking is picking up as the bigger flatties are moving closer to the beach with the water temps holding in the low 70's most days. My cousin Mark Cornelius fished with his buddy Ron this weekend and they brought home 6 keepers with a fat 8.5 lb. fish in the box. That's a nice fluke right there. The head boats are either tog and sea bass fishing, fluking or blue fishing at night, and all have been productive on most days. so things are rolling along nicely right now, and the blowfish should come into the bay soon to top it off, and then all will be well. So, pick your poison and head on over to Barnegat light bait and tackle and pick up some supplies and have at it; you won't be disappointed. By the way, that's for real. Grandpa Al is 90, Ray Frazier is 82, and ol' Mustache John is 73. 245 yrs! That's a state record for dock fishin' old dudes! Good luck and great fishing to everyone. Be safe, and watch those buoys!
