"Flukes-a-plenty": 7/27/2010

This past week saw plenty of keeper fluke come to the fry pans both out of the bay and on the jetty. The guys over at the condo docks on sixth st. are still lighting it up and catching keeper fish everyday. (Three of those old dudes are a combined 245 yrs. of age) I fished with those guys on Tuesday and impressed even myself with two fish at 20 inches and a 19 to go. I also took some pics of some really nice fish to come off the docks this past two weeks and I saw my first triggerfish come to the surface right in front of me. You'll need some of Basil's fresh ground chum to get them to you, and I know Basil's chum is fresh because I went into the shop the other day and caught him eating some of it. Sometimes I worry about that dude. And with that we venture out to the end of the rock pile where the togs are thick and mean! I went out there twice since the season opened and caught nice fish within minutes, 17 inches and up. Most guys are passing on that because of the long haul out the

Hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather and their Memorial Day weekend . This was one of those weeks where we did more "fishing" than "catching", you couldn't say it was bad fishing but it just seemed off. The bay/inlet fishing at times continues to offer some great light tackle action while the ocean striper bite has been in a tail spin since last weekend. The thick bunker schools have some how evaporated overnight taking with them our trophy striped bass. Of course this can change overnight and only time will tell. Regular Jay Simmons started the week with his client Mark Hansen in hopes to repeat last weeks torrid trophy striper bass action . Searching for any signs of bunker proved only futile and trolling provided little reward as well. Moving back to the inlet/bay the guys found action with 2-5lbs blue with striped bass, blackfish and a nice preseason [ throw back ] 5lbs fluke making the mix. With the odds against us, new come
